Payroll Manager
Location: Johannesburg (Gauteng)
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Manager to oversee the end‑to‑end payroll function for our organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll, compliance with statutory requirements, and the delivery of exceptional service to employees. This role will also support continuous improvement of payroll systems, processes, and controls.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead payroll process optimisation, efficiency initiatives, and continuous improvement projects.
- Ensure payroll policies and procedures are up to date, aligned to legislation, and effectively implemented.
- Provide expert advice on tax, remuneration structures, and benefits to management.
- Partner with Finance on payroll reconciliations, costing, and budgetary planning.
- Oversee the accurate and timely execution of monthly payroll, including bonuses, overtime, PAYE, UIF, Skills Levies, EMP201 and EMP501 submissions.
- Ensure accurate capturing and processing of expatriate salaries and benefits.
- Implement and monitor legislative changes including Workman's Compensation, annual payroll audits, and SARS updates.
- Guarantee accuracy of third‑party payments and reconcile them with payroll deductions.
- Ensure system compliance, data integrity, and effective controls to safeguard payroll information.
- Address and resolve complex payroll and tax queries raised by employees.
- Provide mock payslips, prepare payroll reports, and support HR and Finance with payroll analytics.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop the Payroll Administrator.
- Maintain relationships with external service providers (sage, brokers, banks, SARS).
- Act as the escalation point for payroll issues within the organization and, when necessary, manage full end‑to‑end payroll processing.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5‑7 years’ experience in payroll management.
- Proficient in Sage 300 People or VIP Premier.
- Strong knowledge of applicable legislation and compliance requirements.
- Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.

- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, HR, or related field (preferred).
