Purpose of the job:
- Manage the activities of the payroll department to ensure accurate and timely payment of salaries and wages.
- Ensure compliance with all legal and legislative requirements related to payroll.
- Process all death, disability, and termination claims.
Key relationships (internal & external):
- Internal: HR, Finance, Management, all staff
- External: SARS, Sage/VIP, RMA, WCA, UIF, Medical Aid SP, Provident Fund(s) SP, ERS, ad hoc contractors/service providers, MIBCO
Critical experience:
- 10+ years payroll management experience in a medium-sized organization, managing multiple payrolls (monthly and weekly)
- SARS returns
- Comprehensive knowledge of MIBCO agreement
- Proficiency in Sage 300 People
- Knowledge of ERS Biometrics clocking system
- Intermediate financial knowledge
Minimum education:
- Matric and/or payroll or accounting diploma
Technical (systems) knowledge required:
- Microsoft Office Suite (Advanced)
- Relevant payroll system
- SARS online systems
- Online banking systems
- ESS
- WCA / RMA online systems

Key Performance Areas and Tasks:
- Complete and submit all statutory and legislative requirements (e.g., EMP 201, WCA returns, SARS submissions)
- Support payroll supervisor in managing the payroll team
- Ensure timely and accurate payroll activities: employee loading, correct pay rates, provident funds, vehicle and petrol tax, leave linking, ESS integration, termination payments, payroll reconciliations, bank payments, Salesforce salary uploads
- Utilize payroll systems effectively: employee linking, online systems, journals, updates, company setups, legislative registrations
- Provide relevant reports to HR and government agencies
- Train payroll staff and ensure competence and succession planning
- Manage payroll staff performance and discipline
- Ensure leave forms are approved and ESS is used for leave records
