PART-TIME LIBRARIAN (FIXED CONTRACT)

We are looking for a dynamic, passionate and highly organised PART-TIME LIBRARIAN to support our Preparatory School’s vibrant learning environment. The ideal candidate will play a key role in cultivating a love for reading, supporting teaching and learning, and managing a multi-media library space that inspires curiosity and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain a well‑organised, welcoming school library.
  • Foster a love of reading by curating engaging collections of children’s literature.
  • Support educators in integrating library resources into the curriculum.
  • Encourage and guide students in independent research and reading.
  • Promote information literacy and digital citizenship across grade levels.
  • Administer library systems and ensure the library is a dynamic, resource‑rich environment.
  • A suitable professional qualification in Library Science, Education or a related field.
  • Registration with SACE (South African Council for Educators).
  • Strong knowledge of children’s literature and age‑appropriate reading materials.
  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written.
  • Strong organisational and management skills with attention to detail.
  • Technologically proficient, with the ability to integrate digital tools and platforms into the library setting.
  • A passion for fostering reading and learning in young children.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, multimedia‑rich environment.
  • High emotional intelligence and the ability to engage positively with students, staff and parents.
  • Enthusiastic, innovative and committed to the holistic development of learners.
