Job summary

A private educational institution in South Africa seeks a passionate lecturer to train and educate students. This role involves lecturing, facilitating workshops, and providing learning support. Job Purpose:

The purpose of the lecturer position involves the training and education of students; student consultations; the establishment of a knowledge base of the discipline through academic research & development and providing support to the Programme Coordinators.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Lecturing: Lecture and facilitate Student Support workshops and subject-specific tutorials as required.
  • Teaching and Learning Support.
  • Develop teaching & learning capacity and standards on campus by assisting the Programme Coordinators and contract lecturers.
  • Ensure academic conventions are communicated and taught on campus and preparation, lecturing and marking in relevant discipline according to timetable.
  • Work with the librarians on information literacy for students and lecturers.
  • Under the direction of the Programme Coordinators, coordinate and run lecturer forums and faculty meetings.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualification:

A minimum of an Honour’s degree in Psychology

OR

A minimum of a BEd Honours degree

OR

Another Humanities/Arts/Social Science Honour’s,

OR

Postgraduate Diploma (NQF level 8 postgraduate qualification) with a focus on education

AND:

The undergraduate qualification must include Psychology as a major (up to third year level).

Areas if work experience:

Teaching experience in relevant associated subjects is required. Ideally Psychology and/or work experience in counselling etc.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the South African higher education systems and regulatory framework.
    Knowledge and understanding of the Teaching and Learning theory and interventions.
  • The ability to provide student support services.
  • The ability to work with and learn more about digitalized academic platforms.
  • The ability to cope with a frequently changing environment and to adapt to evolving situations.
  • Ability to adhere to rules and strictly follow work regulations.
  • Deadline orientated and can work well under pressure.
  • Ability to manage time effectively.
  • Strong administrative skills.
Working Hours

Classes are scheduled from 08h00am until 17h00pm, Monday to Friday. Your working hours will depend on the modules assigned to you according to the timetable.
