Overview

Emeris (Ruimsig) has a vacancy for Part Time Lecturers for Higher Certificate and Bachelor of Hospitality Operations in the following modules:

Higher Certificate in Hospitality Management
  • Food and Beverage Studies

Focuses on the theoretical principles of food and beverage operations, menu planning, and service systems, requiring facilitation through conceptual analysis and industry case studies.

  • Introduction to Front Office and Rooms Division Management

Examines the structures, functions, and coordination of hotel front office and housekeeping operations, facilitated through operational theory and simulated management scenarios.

  • Hospitality Legal Requirements

Explores the legal and regulatory framework governing hospitality establishments, requiring facilitation grounded in legislative interpretation, policy analysis, and ethical case evaluation.

  • Hospitality Service Management

Analyses service delivery systems and strategies for achieving guest satisfaction, with facilitation focused on service theory, quality models, and organizational behaviour in hospitality.

Bachelor of Hospitality Management
  • Hospitality 1A: Food and Beverage Studies

Introduces the foundational theories of food and beverage management, including menu development and service systems, taught through conceptual frameworks and hospitality context.

  • Hospitality 1B: Rooms Division Operations

Theoretically explores housekeeping and front office operations, emphasizing systems management, performance standards, and guest service concepts.

  • Events Management

Provides theoretical insight into event planning, coordination, and evaluation, with facilitation based on project management principles, stakeholder engagement, and case-based learning.

Key Performance Areas

The primary purpose of this position is the development and delivery of effective teaching on qualifications and all associated academic activities such as student engagement and support that will promote student success and learning. This includes responsibility for modules from conceptualisation through to assessment and responsibility for an integrated, effective curriculum within qualifications. Participation in scholarship such as research is also required. Effective lecturers need to be active members of the institutional academic community, contributing to and participating in the development, effective governance, and reputation development of the institution.

  • Lecture preparation, delivery and all related teaching and assessment activities across the required modes of delivery.
  • Marking of assessments providing timeous and constructive feedback to students.
  • Development of ICE activities, learning material such as manuals, assessment instruments and rubrics and memoranda as required.
  • Participation in peer review of the marking and lecturing of other lecturers; and
  • Participation in lecturing quality assurance and development associated with own teaching.
  • May be required to internally moderate assessment scripts that fall within the respective subject fields, where necessary across IIE sites of delivery.
  • Assist where required with the experiential learning of students in their programme.
  • Conduct student support interventions where required.
  • Appropriate academic administration as required.
  • Involvement with Teaching and Learning activities, including onboarding, peer reviews, internal moderation and the production of a teaching portfolio.
  • Consultation with students to provide academic support.
  • Adherence to institutional norms, standards, policies, and processes.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
  • A minimum of Honours or Postgraduate Diploma (NQF 8) in Hospitality or Tourism with Hospitality related subjects completed.
  • Ideally: Masters or Doctoral degree in Hospitality or Tourism with Hospitality related subjects completed.
Minimum Work Experience Requirements
  • A minimum of 1-year lecturing experience.
  • Industry experience of at least 2 years.
Working Conditions
  • Please note that this is an independent contractor (IC) position.
  • Demonstrated capability to lecture, conduct tutorials and seminars at tertiary level in an effective manner in the qualification(s) stipulated at the highest academic level.
  • Expertise in learning management systems (LMSs).
  • Up-to-date knowledge of curriculum areas being taught.
  • Demonstrated capacity to design, set and evaluate assessments at the appropriate level.
  • Capacity to engage in inter-campus and inter-institutional team academic and/or community activities.
  • High level of communication skills.
  • Proven high-level administrative abilities.
  • Ability to conduct face–to–face on campus.
