A prominent educational institution in South Africa is seeking a Part-Time Lecturer for Electrical, Electronic, and Mechanical Engineering. Candidates should have a minimum of a BEng/BIng/BSc(Eng) and relevant teaching experience. Responsibilities include the development and delivery of modules, providing feedback, and engaging in academic support. Emeris (insert Campus) has a vacancy for a Part Time - Mechanical, Electrical and Electronic Engineering in the following fields: Electrical and Electronic Engineering; Mechanical Engineering.
Advanced Analogue Electronics – The purpose of this module is to equip students with the skills to perform analysis, design and performance of advanced analogue circuits used in engineering.
Advanced Power Systems – The module covers the principles, methods and application of power storage, transmission and distribution to prepare students for real‑world applications of electrical power storage, transmission and distribution, and grid stability.
Computer Networks – The purpose of this module is to advance the students' knowledge of computer networks to apply network design or the use of networks in engineering applications.
Data Communications – The purpose of this module is to master the fundamentals of data transmission systems to analyse, design and assess data transmission networks.
Electrical Machines – The purpose of this module is to further develop the knowledge and skills of the students in electrical machines and power sources to solve complex equipment problems.
High Voltage Engineering – The purpose of this module is to further develop the students' knowledge of and skills in high voltage in Engineering to solve complex problems relating to high voltage equipment.
Image Processing – The purpose of this module is to further develop mathematical skills to interpret, restore, and re‑organise image processing in a real‑world application.
Instrumentation and Measurement – The purpose of this module is for students to be able to demonstrate competence to design and conduct investigations and experiments.
Through the selection process and specifying instrumentation, students will define measurement test procedures and interpret test results.
Power Systems – The purpose of this module is to advance the students' knowledge of power systems in order to design power transition lines and perform fault calculations.
Dynamic Behaviour of Fluids – The purpose of this module is to advance the understanding of fluid dynamic behaviour under varying flow conditions by analysing the design and performance requirements of fluid‑driven turbomachinery to model and analyse turbulent flows.
Maintenance and Reliability Management – The purpose of this module is to provide students with knowledge and skills in the maintenance and reliability of the performance of production machinery in order to solve complex problems in given scenarios.
Refrigeration and Air Conditioning – The purpose of this module is to develop knowledge and skills in refrigeration and air conditioning to solve problems in given scenarios.
Strength of Material under Complex Loading Conditions – The purpose of this module is to develop knowledge and skills in order to create safe designs for complex loading conditions the strength of materials.
Basic Accounting and Analysis – The purpose of this module is to provide students with an understanding of the key principles in accounting, costing, and finance required for decision making in Engineering.
Electromagnetic Theory – The purpose of this module is to enhance the students' knowledge of the concepts, theories, and principles of electrostatic, magnetostatic, and electromagnetic fields.
Financial Management for Engineers – The purpose of this module is to develop knowledge and skills in financial management to evaluate different financial management concepts in an engineering environment.
Fundamental Principles in Machine Dynamics – The purpose of this module is to develop knowledge and skills in the fundamental principles of kinematics and kinetics of particles and rigid bodies in 2D and 3D space to solve problems in given scenarios.
Introduction to Programming for Engineers – This module introduces the basic principles of structured and object‑oriented programming to solve engineering problems.
Introduction to Computer Simulations – This module introduces the basic principles of structured and object‑oriented programming to solve engineering problems.
Software Engineering Principles & Practice – The purpose of this module is to provide students with advanced knowledge and skills in high‑level architectural design of software.
The primary purpose of this position is the development and delivery of effective teaching on qualifications and all associated academic activities such as student engagement and support that will promote student success and learning, including responsibility for modules from conceptualisation through to assessment and an integrated, effective curriculum within qualifications.
Participation in scholarship such as research is also required.
Lecture / practicum preparation, delivery and all related teaching and assessment activities across the required modes of delivery.
Marking of assessments providing time‑to‑us and constructive feedback to students.
Development of ICE activities, learning material such as manuals, assessment instruments and rubrics and memoranda as required.
Participation in peer review of the marking and lecturing of other lecturers; and participation in lecturing quality assurance and development associated with own teaching.
May be required to internally moderate assessments scripts that fall within the respective subject fields, where necessary across IIE sites of delivery.
Assist where required with the experiential learning of students in their programme.
Conduct student support interventions where required.
Appropriate academic administration as required.
Involvement with Teaching and Learning activities, including onboarding, peer reviews, internal moderation and the production of a teaching portfolio.
Consultation with students to provide academic support.
Engagement in review and improvement and quality assurance activities of the IIE's School of Engineering, Science and Health.
Adherence to institutional norms, standards, policies, and processes; and development of academic material and assessments on programmes as required, including, but not limited to, the roles of developer, moderator or equivalent for the Central Academic Team (CAT).
A minimum of BEng/ BIng/ BSc (Eng) (NQF 8) in Mechanical / Electrical / Electronic / Computer Engineering and a Master's degree in the relevant discipline.
Professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) would be highly advantageous.
A minimum of 2 years' teaching experience gained from a similar higher education role at a recognised tertiary institution.
Alternatively, minimum 5 years of related industry experience.
Please note that this is a Part‑Time position; Demonstrated capability to lecture, conduct tutorials and seminars at tertiary level in an effective manner in the qualification(s) stipulated at the highest academic level; Expertise in learning management systems (LMSs); Competencies in curriculum design and development; Up‑to‑date knowledge of curriculum areas being taught; Demonstrated capacity to design, set and evaluate assessments at the appropriate level; A record of research and publication in scholarly journals; Ability to mentor and supervise academic activities; Demonstrated capacity to coordinate modules, and conduct relevant module administration activities; Capacity to engage in inter‑campus and inter‑institutional team academic and/or community activities; Professional membership may be required; High level of communication skills in verbal, written and electronic modes; Proven high‑level administrative abilities; and active participation in accreditation proceedings for the Council on Higher Education and the Engineering Council of South Africa.
