Job summary

A leading agri-business in South Africa seeks a Packing Manager to oversee the operations at the Molteno Packhouse in Grabouw. The successful candidate will handle scheduling, lead a team, ensure effective grading and packing, and maintain high food safety standards. Ideal applicants have at least 2 years' relevant experience, proficiency in Excel, and a qualification in Industrial Engineering or Operations Management. This role requires a proactive, well-organised individual dedicated to continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and understanding of fruit quality standards, customer specifications and packing machinery.

Fruitways is a leading agri‑business in South Africa. We specialise in the growing, packing and marketing of apples and pears to retailers, traders and wholesalers around the globe.

PACKING MANAGER

Reporting to the Packhouse Manager, the successful candidate will be based at our Molteno Packhouse in Grabouw. The position requires a pro‑active and well‑organised individual, ensuring an effective and efficient packing function by optimising the use of resources and meeting production objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Scheduling of production runs according to packing plan.
  • Manage effective fruit grading and packing as per specific market standards.
  • Manage packing processes to achieve productivity and quality performance targets.
  • Lead and develop a team of Supervisors.
  • Minimise downtime through effective planning and communication.
  • Report relevant production information to assist management in taking well‑informed decisions.
  • Ensure correct working methods and procedures are adhered to with regards to food safety (BRC and HACCP).
  • Driving continuous improvement practices.
  • Dotted‑line management of pallet intake department, ensuring effective pallet intake and stock processes
Requirements
  • Industrial Engineering, Operations Management or similar qualification will be advantageous
  • Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience in a production environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of fruit quality standards, customer specifications and packing machinery
  • Intermediate computer literacy – Excel skills
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
