Job summary

Schlemmer in South Africa is seeking a Senior Procurement Manager to lead packaging and raw material procurement for an FMCG portfolio. You will drive sourcing strategy, negotiate with suppliers, and optimize stock turns and working capital.

You will mentor the procurement team and collaborate with R&D, QA, operations and finance, using advanced Excel and ERP systems (Syspro or SAP preferred) to improve processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain or Commerce.
• 8–10 years' raw material/packaging procurement experience.
• Minimum 5 years' management experience.
• Strong packaging materials knowledge and manufacturing processes.
• Advanced Excel, numerical and analytical skills.
• Proven supplier management, negotiation and cost-saving experience.
• Experience mentoring teams and cross-functional collaboration.
• Willing to travel locally and internationally.
• FMCG and high-SKU environment experience advantageous.
• Syspro or SAP experience advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead procurement of packaging across the product portfolio.
• Manage procurement of key raw materials and fragrances.
• Evaluate packaging specs, materials, processes and quality.
• Identify new packaging technologies and international suppliers.
• Develop and maintain supplier relationships locally and internationally.
• Negotiate pricing, lead times, MOQs and payment terms.
• Identify cost-saving and alternative sourcing opportunities.
• Maintain supplier and pricing data in ERP.
• Utilise Excel models and procurement systems to manage purchasing.
• Optimize order frequency, lead times and supplier terms.
• Analyze purchasing and inventory data to improve stock turns and working capital.
• Lead, mentor and develop the procurement team.
• Collaborate with R&D, Quality, Operations, Planning, Finance and Marketing.
