Introduction
We are currently seeking a well groomed Overhead Crane Technician to join our dynamic team. Job Purpose: The Overhead Crane Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and installation of overhead cranes and related lifting equipment.
The role ensures all crane systems are safe, operational, and compliant with applicable safety and quality standards.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on overhead cranes, hoists, and related systems.
- Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic faults and execute repairs or component replacements.
- Conduct load testing and safety checks as per legal and manufacturer standards.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA/local safety regulations and company policies.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, service reports, and parts usage.
- Install and commission new overhead crane systems or retrofits under supervision or independently.
- Calibrate and test control systems, limit switches, and safety devices.
- Respond to emergency breakdowns and provide timely technical support.
- Liaise with suppliers and OEMs for spare parts and technical documentation.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment and follow lock‑out/tag‑out (LOTO) procedures.
- Assist in training junior technicians or apprentices when required.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Education: Technical Diploma or Certificate in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering or related field; Trade Test (Electrician) preferred.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience servicing overhead cranes, hoists, and lifting equipment; Experience in fault‑finding (electrical & mechanical) on crane systems.
- Certifications (advantageous): LMI (Lifting Machinery Inspector) certification; Valid Crane Operator License; Safety certifications (e.g., Working at Heights, Fall Protection, First Aid).
- Skills & Competencies: Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical crane systems, ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals, understanding of control panels, VSDs, familiarity with occupational health and safety regulations, excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, good communication and reporting skills, physically fit and comfortable working at heights, attention to detail and safety‑conscious mindset, ability to work independently or as part of a team, valid driver’s license (Code 08 / B) and own transport preferred.
- Working Conditions: Work performed in industrial environments, warehouses, and at height; Required to wear PPE and follow all safety protocols; May involve travel to client sites or remote locations; Overtime, standby, or call‑out duties may be required.
