Job Description

Starfish Greathearts Foundation, a leading non‑profit organisation dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable children across South Africa, is seeking a qualified and experienced Oral Hygienist to join our team on a short‑term project‑based contract.

This role requires professionalism, strong communication skills, and a team‑oriented mindset.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Community mobilisation and sensitisation – including strengthening stakeholder relationships.
  • Logistics and campaign support.
  • Data collection and referral tracking.
  • Reporting, post‑intervention follow‑up and sustainability.
  • Prepare and execute dental screening procedure.
  • Conduct referrals to local clinic and/or hospitals.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and manage inventory.
  • Supervise, monitor and lead a small team.
  • Educate patients on oral care and post‑treatment support.
  • Uphold infection control standards and compliance protocols.
  • Adhoc duties for project support.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education
  • A National Diploma or higher qualification in dental nursing.
Experience
  • Minimum of 3‑5 years of experience in an oral hygienist role, preferably within a health NGO or a community development setting.
  • Proven experience in logistics coordination and managing complex schedules.
  • Demonstrated experience in data management, monitoring and reporting. Experience supervising a field team is highly advantageous. Experience working with government departments (DOH/DBE) and corporate donors is a strong plus.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills; friendly, professional demeanour with a strong focus on patient care.

  • SA ID.
  • Copy of valid clear criminal record document.
