Job summary

Cape Peninsula University of Technology invites applications for the Rotational Head of Department in Ophthalmic Sciences. The HoD leads a team of academics and support staff to deliver teaching, research and community engagement in line with HPCSA requirements.

The role covers academic leadership, curriculum development, quality assurance and financial and HR management, with a strong emphasis on planning and strategic decision making.

Qualifications

• PhD/doctorate in Ophthalmic Sciences or equivalent research doctorate.
• Valid HPCSA registration as Optometrist or Dispensing Optician.
• Minimum four years of relevant lecturing experience in higher education.
• Evidence of postgraduate supervision and research leadership.

Responsibilities

• Align departmental performance with faculty and institutional directives.
• Provide academic leadership, curriculum design and quality assurance.
• Oversee financial and human resource management of the department.
• Coordinate undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and WIL activities.
• Foster industry and community partnerships and external research funding.
