Job summary

Anglo American in Kathu seeks an Operator Gr1 Auxiliary Mining to join the Mining department at Band 9/P5 (C-Lower). The role focuses on operating and maintaining auxiliary equipment, adhering to safety standards and collaborating with the shift team.

You will handle material movement, inspections, and basic repairs while documenting equipment usage and fuel. 1–2 years mining ops exp and relevant licences are required.

Qualifications

• Grade 12/N3 is required.
• Red Permit is required.
• Valid Dover Certificate.
• Relevant HME Licenses.
• Competency A is advantageous.
• SA Driver's licence is required.
• Technical knowledge of mining equipment operations.
• 1–2 years of mining operations experience.
• Knowledge of equipment operational systems (collision prevention, fire suppression).
• Current technical understanding with 1–2 years operational mining experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate and control auxiliary mining equipment (loaders, dozers, graders) safely and efficiently.
• Conduct routine maintenance checks and minor repairs; report issues.
• Assist in material handling (loading, transporting, unloading) on site.
• Maintain effective communication with operators, supervisors and maintenance.
• Perform pre-operational inspections and report abnormalities.
• Support other mining operations as needed (excavation, dumping, grading).
• Maintain accurate records of equipment usage and fuel consumption.

Job description

As Operator Gr1 Auxiliary Mining your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

Safety, Health, and Environment:

• Demonstrates behaviour in line with health, safety, and environmental standards.
• Work collaboratively with supervisor, peers, and relevant others to achieve operational goals.

Auxiliary Equipment

• Equipment Operation: Operate and control various auxiliary mining equipment, such as loaders, dozers, graders, and other support vehicles, safely and efficiently.
• Routine Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance checks on auxiliary equipment, perform minor repairs, and promptly report any issues to maintenance teams for further attention.
• Material Handling: Assist in material handling activities, including loading, transporting, and unloading materials within the mining site, contributing to the overall flow of materials.
• Communication: Maintain effective communication with other operators, supervisors, and relevant personnel to ensure coordinated and efficient mining operations.
• Inspections: Conduct pre-operational inspections on equipment to ensure it is in proper working condition, identifying and reporting any abnormalities or potential issues.
• Operational Support: Support other mining operations, such as assisting with excavation, dumping, or grading activities, as needed.
• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, fuel consumption, and other relevant operational data for reporting and analysis.
• Environmental Awareness: Operate equipment that considers environmental impact, following guidelines to minimise ecological disturbance and maintain compliance with environmental regulations.
• Training and Compliance: Participate in training programs to enhance skills and knowledge related to the safe and efficient operation of auxiliary mining equipment. Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards.
• Emergency Response: Respond to emergencies, following established protocols and procedures to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment.
• Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other members of the mining team, including operators, supervisors, and maintenance personnel, to ensure a cohesive and productive work environment.

This role is in Mining (MIN) department on a Band 9/P5 (C-Lower) level reporting to the Shift Supervisor.
