Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas

The Infrastructure and Engineering Department plays a pivotal role in the maintenance and improvement of the University’s infrastructure. We seek to employ a skilled, knowledgeable and resourceful individual. Reporting to the Foreman: Electrical, the appointee’s duties will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Maintain relevant and up‑to‑date records of all electrical requirements
  • Maintain asset inventory
  • General assistance to the foreman/maintenance manager
  • Raise and close Job Cards on the maintenance management system
  • General maintenance function to quickly analyse and solve electrical issues
  • Communicate effectively with the foreman and maintenance manager to determine how problems relating to electrical concerns will be addressed
  • Efficiently source and control parts and spares
  • Deal with clients, service provider management and vendors
  • Report on snags, issues and items affecting building condition and performance
  • Update vehicle log book
  • Assist the foreman/maintenance manager in investigating and keep up to date with new products and technology which can assist the organisation in reducing costs and improve service
  • Ensure employees, buildings and equipment meet the relevant safety requirements in terms of the OHS Act and any other relevant regulations
Minimum Requirements
  • National Senior Certificate (Matric)
  • Minimum of 2 years' hands‑on experience working with electrical systems
  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools
  • Valid Code EB driver's licence with at least 2 years' driving experience
Essential Skills & Competencies
  • Physically fit with no fear of working heights
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Competent in reading and interpreting technical drawings
  • Strong understanding of workplace health and safety regulations
  • Flexibility to work overtime when required
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written)
