Operations Manager Retail E-Commerce
Location: Century City, Cape Town
Salary: R370,000 per annum
Benefits: 19 days annual leave + R1,500 medical allowance

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to join a fast-paced UK-based retail e-commerce company. This role is ideal for a highly organized, analytical leader with a passion for online business and a proven background in operations management within the e-commerce or retail industry.

The Operations Manager will play a crucial role in ensuring efficient deal approvals, merchant onboarding, compliance checks, and smooth execution of business processes. The ideal candidate must have strong leadership abilities, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to drive operational excellence in a high-growth environment.

Key Responsibilities

New Business & Merchant Approval

  • Oversee the approval process for new merchants, ensuring compliance with business requirements, such as proof of trading, credit score checks, website quality, and stock storage verification.
  • Coordinate in-house warehouse inspections where necessary.
  • Provide monthly reports summarizing merchant onboarding, deal performance, and any required action plans.

Compliance & Deal Execution

  • Ensure deals meet internal compliance standards and ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) guidelines before they go live.
  • Verify pricing and discount accuracy before deals are launched.
  • Work closely with the sales team to rectify any compliance issues and ensure deals are market-ready.
  • Lead a team of three direct reports:
  • 2 x Deal Executives Responsible for deal approvals, ensuring merchants meet quality standards, and verifying that offers are competitive and profitable.
  • 1 x Stock Controller Monitors high-revenue deal stock levels, ensures stock replenishment, and manages deal expirations to minimize missed sales.
  • Conduct weekly one-on-one meetings with the team to provide guidance, support, and performance feedback.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Merchandising on strategy and operational improvements.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting

  • Analyze sales data, identify trends, and create reports to drive business decisions.
  • Develop action plans for underperforming merchants to improve their performance.
  • Forecast seasonal demand and align team priorities accordingly.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in an Operations Manager role within retail, e-commerce, or a related industry.
  • Tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, or a related field.
  • Experience managing a team of 5 or more employees.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience with reporting tools and data analysis.
  • Ability to prioritize, strategize, and implement action plans based on data insights.
  • A passion for e-commerce and online business with a keen eye for operational efficiency.
