Job Vacancy: Operations Manager

Vula Environmental Services specialises in landscaping and environmental rehabilitation, with our headquarters located in Cape Town.

Our operational base extends across various projects throughout the Western Cape.

We're currently in search of an experienced Operations Manager to join our dynamic team with relocation required close to our Morning Star based office.

We seek an energetic individual capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment that involves a substantial amount of travel. The position of Operations Manager will play a critical role in planning, coordinating, and executing projects within the landscaping & environmental industry.

This position requires a strong understanding of construction management, project & contracts management, cost control and operations to ensure successful project outcomes and client satisfaction.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Horticulture Sciences.
  • Proven experience in landscape project & contracts management with a minimum of years of relevant work experience.
  • Background and experience in irrigation design and construction is essential, qualified under LIA or SABI would be advantageous.
  • Experience in working on large scale and fast paced projects, demonstrated ability with working with multi‑disciplined professional teams and specialists.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of projects & contracts management, sub‑contractor management, OHSE, cost control and quote formulation, with a focus on landscape and built environments.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to develop project plans and Gantt schedules, and lead multi‑disciplined teams to achieve project goals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients, stakeholders, senior management, and team members.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft software and tools, such as Microsoft Planner, Excel and Word, proficiency in CAD and GIS would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrated problem‑solving abilities, analytical skills, and attention to detail in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
  • Contactable, punctual, and attentive to detail that is self‑motivated and driven.
  • Ability to travel to project sites, stay away from home and field locations as needed.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage landscaping environmental projects from initiation to completion, ensuring adherence to project scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, external stakeholders, and clients to define project objectives, deliverables, and success criteria.
  • Develop project plans, Gantt schedules, and budgets, allocating resources and identifying potential risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Understanding cost control, budget and allowables and exercising control from project commencement to completion.
  • Coordinate field operations, including site assessments, data collection and monitoring activities, in compliance with construction regulations and industry standards.
  • Oversee subcontractors and vendors, negotiating contracts, monitoring performance, and ensuring deliverables meet quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular project meetings and communications to provide updates, address issues, make correction and facilitate decision‑making processes.
  • Track project progress, and performance metrics, analysing data to identify trends, deviations, and areas for improvement.
  • Ensure compliances, regulations, and reporting requirements, maintaining documentation and records as necessary.
  • Implement best practices and quality assurance procedures to optimize project efficiency, safety, and environmental sustainability.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and continuous improvement, providing leadership and support to site managers.
