Requirements
  • Basic R425 qualification (i.e., diploma or degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
  • Current registration with the South African Nursing Council.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years appropriate/recognizable experience in Nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
  • A post-basic qualification in Health Services Management/Nursing Administration registered with SANC.
  • Computer literacy i.e. (MS Word, Power Point) will be an added advantage.
  • Exposure in working in Emergency department as a Professional Nurse.
  • Competencies/Knowledge/Skills: Leadership, ward management/ward administration, planning, organizing, coordination, and communication skills.
  • Ability to take charge and make appropriate independent decisions.
  • Display empathy for patients, promote advocacy and facilitate holistic treatment and care.
  • Knowledge of administrative policies and guidelines.
Duties
  • Supervise and evaluate quality of nursing care as directed by Professional scope of practice and set nursing standards within professional/legal framework.
  • Implement nursing legislation and related framework and ethical nursing practices.
  • Develop/establish and maintain constructive relationships with nursing and other stakeholders (inter-personal, inter-sectoral and multi-disciplinary teamwork).
  • Participate in training, research and self-development.
  • Understanding of Ideal hospital framework version 2.0, PFMA, Labour relations and other relevant legislative frameworks.
  • Manage effective utilization and supervision of human, financial and material resources.
  • Prepared to do night duty, weekends, public holidays and relieve the supervisor when required.
  • Perform duties as an Operational Manager in accordance with the scope of practice, demonstrate effective communication with patients, supervisors and other health professionals and junior colleagues.
  • Management of personnel performance and review thereof (Contracting, Midterm review and final assessment).
