Job summary

Wits Health Consortium is seeking a dedicated Occupational Therapist to deliver assessments and treatments at RehabMatters Sandton and Intercare Sandton Sub-acute. The role focuses on promoting independence through manual therapy, cognitive strategies, and home adaptations.

Candidates should have an OT degree, active HPCSA registration, and at least two years of relevant experience in adult rehabilitation. Travel between units may be required and a valid driver’s license is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy.
• HPCSA registration with active malpractice insurance.
• Minimum 2+ years of work experience in occupational therapy.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients’ physical function, daily living activities and cognition.
• Provide hands‑on therapy, adaptive strategies, and fatigue management.
• Educate patients on body mechanics and self-care techniques.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for holistic care.
• Document progress and update treatment plans.

Main purpose of the job

Delivery of occupational therapy assessment and treatment

Location

Interpractice, largely based at RehabMatters Sandton and Intercare Sandton Sub-acute and Rehabilitation Hospital

Key performance areas

• Assessment and Evaluation: Ability to assess Patients' physical function, activities of daily living and cognition
• Therapy: Proficiency in hands on therapy, coping and adaptive strategies, cognitive therapy, pacing and fatigue management and home adaptation to support independence. Strong manual handling and transfer technique
• Patient Education: Skills to educate Patients about body mechanics and self-care techniques to empower them in their recovery
• Collaboration: Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams for holistic care
• Documentation: Tracking progress and updating treatment plans

Required minimum education and training

Bachelors or Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy

Professional Body Registration

HPCSA Proof of active Malpractice Insurance

Required minimum work experience

2+ Years working experience

Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities

• South African citizen or valid work visa
• Experience in adult rehabilitation and multidisciplinary team working
• Experience in adult neuro particularly in the out-patient and sub-acute/in-patient rehabilitation environment
• Valid drivers license and personal car to enable easy travel between units
• Proficiency in clinical documentation and basic IT platforms
