OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST (THERAPEUTIC INTERVENTIONS / CARE)

Location: Johannesburg – Sandringham

Position Type: Permanent – Full Time

Purpose of the Job

To promote the health and well-being of residents and prevent disability, increase independent function, and enhance development that will enable them to participate in everyday activities.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Ensure that a holistic approach is used in allowing residents to achieve optimal functional level in all spheres of life.
  • Provide OT assessment and individual development plan in conjunction with MDT.
  • Ensure that adequate treatment programmes are implemented, incorporating the total population daily.
  • Assist with assessment and therapeutic intervention at all facilities required.
  • Ensure that all residents with special needs are catered for.
  • Ensure that all members of the MDT and family, staff, etc. are updated and aware of the progress and outcomes of each resident.
  • Ensure adequate communication among all levels of staff.
  • Ensure safety of residents and staff.
  • Monitor and maintain equipment, areas and supplies.
  • Ensure that residents have the required specialist equipment to maximize ability and safety.
  • Provide support and training as and when needed to staff to ensure that they have the necessary skills to perform their duties.
  • Supervision and management of OTT's and Occupational Therapist services within the Therapeutic Intervention Department.
  • Co-ordination and development therapeutic groups.
Qualifications And Education Requirements
  • BSc Occupational Therapy
  • 2 years' experience (excluding community service)
  • Current registration with relevant professional body (e.g., HPCSA)
Preferred Skills
  • A hands-on clinical approach to patient and resident management
  • Good understanding of physical rehabilitation
  • Sound knowledge and application of assistive devices, mobility aids and wheelchair seating
  • Good communicator
  • Strong leadership abilities
  • Keen interest in the field of geriatrics
  • Patience
