The position ofNew Product Development (NPD)Technologist is becoming available at GrayTec (Pty) Ltd inJanuary

This is agraduate position, therefore, for someone who is graduating in December

  • and looking to start working full time in January

GrayTec is a food ingredients manufacturer / distributor in Brackenfell, Western Cape.

The position has the following requirements :

Qualifications & Requirements
  • BSc Food Science / BTech Food Technology / BSc Chemistry Degree or similar
  • New graduate
  • Good laboratory / testing skills, accuracy, attention to detail, ability to follow a written method, ability to research and understand scientific papers
  • A positive, can-do attitude, self-motivated, willingness to learn, organised, ability to take own initiative and manage your time effectively.

Reporting to : Technical & NPD Manager

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for new and existing product development work, which entails:
  • Research and find/reading scientific papers where needed
  • Laboratory trials and monitoring of potential new products (shelf life, micro, physical properties)
  • Laboratory trials for customer application testing
  • Liaising with suppliers regarding new raw materials and documentation of new raw materials for trials
  • Organising any outsourced laboratory testing that needs to be done as part of new product development
  • Compiling application data sheets for new and existing products
  • Attending NPD meetings and compiling and sending out minutes
  • Organising / making and sending samples to customers and updating the sample tracker
  • Ordering laboratory equipment and consumables where needed, along with lab and quality technologist
  • Keeping laboratory clean, neat and organised (along with other people who use the lab)
  • Handing over of new products to production – doing the first few production runs with the staff once a new product is launched, doing training on product SOP / Work Instruction
  • Involvement in the quality assurance department – end of life and shelf life testing of existing products
  • Paperwork : Keep lab book / file up to date and complete NPD Laboratory trial reports for all trials and customer trial reports where applicable
  • For new products, once approved for launch :
  • Compile TDS / MSDS
  • Compile HACCP product description
  • Compile Flow diagram (or add to existing)
  • Compile factory work instruction
  • Compile lab testing methods (where applicable)
  • Add to Raw materials hazard analysis
  • Compile Change request form
  • Add new raw materials / suppliers to assessment documents (hazards, characteristics, VACCP, TACCP, etc)
  • Liaise with Compliance to add products to Kosher / Halaal certification.
