Job summary

ATS Client in South Africa is seeking a senior technical specialist to bridge hands-on engineering, architecture input, security alignment and transformation delivery across a large distributed network environment.

Year one objectives include owning senior network design decisions, resolving escalations at root cause, advancing secure architecture with segmentation and zero‑trust controls, driving SD‑WAN and hybrid‑cloud projects, improving operational maturity with monitoring and automation,

Responsibilities

• Own senior network design decisions: Lead or shape enterprise designs for resilience, scalability, security and maintainability.
• Resolve critical escalations at root cause: Act as third-line owner for complex incidents, drive RCA and systemic improvements.
• Advance secure network architecture: Improve segmentation, IDS/IPS alignment and zero-trust controls with audit-ready practices.
• Drive transformation workstreams: Lead SD-WAN, hybrid-cloud connectivity and platform upgrades.
• Improve operational maturity: Introduce better monitoring, capacity planning, automation or SDN to reduce risk and cost.
• Build engineering capability: Mentor Level 1-2 engineers and produce standards, playbooks and design docs.

The organisation is modernising its network estate and needs a senior technical specialist who can bridge hands‑on engineering, architecture input, security alignment and transformation delivery.

Performance Objectives for Year One

1. Own senior network design decisions: Lead or materially shape enterprise network designs that improve resilience, scalability, security and operational maintainability.
2. Resolve critical escalations at root cause: Act as third‑line owner for complex network incidents, drive RCA and convert repeated issues into systemic improvements.
3. Advance secure network architecture: Partner with cybersecurity teams to improve segmentation, IDS/IPS alignment, zero‑trust controls and audit‑ready network practices.
4. Drive transformation workstreams: Lead network components of modernisation initiatives such as SD‑WAN, hybrid‑cloud connectivity, segmentation or platform upgrades.
5. Improve operational maturity: Introduce better monitoring, capacity planning, automation or SDN approaches where they can reduce risk, cost or manual effort.
6. Build engineering capability: Mentor Level 1-2 engineers and produce standards, playbooks and design documentation that improve consistency across the team.
