Overview

National Procurement Manager

Location: Johannesburg (Head Office)

Type: Permanent

Intro Hook

Build what doesn’t exist yet.

Shape a national procurement function that powers a fast-moving logistics network.

About the Role

We’re looking for a strategic yet hands-on National Procurement Manager to establish and lead the procurement function within a high-volume courier and logistics group. This is a newly created position designed for a builder—someone who can create structure where none exists, design procurement strategies that scale nationally, and drive commercial value across thousands of moving parts.

You’ll design the procurement framework, oversee sourcing across diverse spend categories, and ensure that the business gets what it needs—on time, on budget, and in full compliance. Working closely with Finance, Operations, and Fleet, you’ll translate business goals into supplier partnerships that deliver both efficiency and reliability.

Who the Client Is

This opportunity is with a well-established national logistics and distribution company, recognised for its strong operational footprint and entrepreneurial drive. The organisation is known for its commitment to service excellence, rapid growth, and disciplined financial governance. It’s a dynamic, fast-paced environment where strategic thinking and practical execution go hand-in-hand.

What You’ll Do
  • Establish a centralised procurement function and national sourcing strategy.
  • Oversee procurement across spend categories: fleet, fuel, IT, warehousing, packaging, and facilities.
  • Negotiate supplier contracts, SLAs, and pricing to secure savings and mitigate risk.
  • Build and manage a consolidated national supplier network.
  • Develop and track supplier performance and compliance metrics.
  • Partner with Finance and Operations to align procurement with budgets and expansion plans.
  • Lead inventory management within operations, uniforms, and stationery.
  • Manage procurement budgets, forecasts, and spend analytics.
  • Build, mentor, and grow a high-performing procurement team.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain, Logistics, or Business.
  • CIPS or equivalent professional certification.
  • 5–10 years’ experience in procurement across logistics, courier, transport, or FMCG sectors.
  • Strong negotiation, supplier management, and cost-control skills.
  • Experience implementing procurement systems or frameworks.
  • Understanding of BBBEE, legal compliance, and South African procurement law.
  • Leadership experience with a practical, results-driven approach.
What Success Looks Like
  • Procurement framework implemented and operational within six months.
  • Year-on-year cost savings and improved budget control.
  • Consolidated supplier base with enhanced national coverage.
  • Improved procurement turnaround times and reduced reactive sourcing.
  • Positive internal stakeholder feedback and strong team development.
The Reality (Rewards & Challenges)

You’ll have autonomy to design something meaningful and visible from day one. But this is a greenfield role—systems, suppliers, and processes will need to be built from scratch. Success will require patience, persistence, and practical execution in a fast-moving logistics environment. If you enjoy balancing strategy with action, this is the opportunity to make your mark.
