Job description

fibertime™ is South Africa’s fastest-growing telco, building affordable, pay-as-you-go internet access for township communities across the country. Our mission is simple: connect everyone to great, affordable internet — for R5 a day, no T&Cs.

With operations expanding across all major provinces and a growth pipeline of over 2 million homes under build (and another 2 million earmarked for further expansion), fibertime™ combines deep infrastructure execution with a customer-centric, technology-driven operating model. We’re scaling nationally and shaping the next chapter of South African connectivity.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

We’re looking for a National Head of Security who lives and breathes the fibertime Way – someone who sees safety not as a checkbox, but as a culture.

You’ll lead a national security framework that protects our people, partners, customers, and brand across every level of our operations – from high-risk field deployments to contractor vetting, from incident response to predictive intelligence.

You’ll operate at the intersection of community, intelligence, and technology – developing systems and strategies that don’t just keep fibertime™ safe, but make our communities safer too. Because at fibertime™, we believe that when our customers’ communities are secure, everything else falls into place.

This role demands leadership, innovation, and empathy. You’ll blend on‑ground understanding of township realities with AI‑driven intelligence, and lead a team that builds resilience through trust, discipline, and collaboration.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Improve the existing and lead fibertime™’s National Security Framework, covering physical, digital, operational, and community dimensions.
  • Oversee and enforce compliance with all South African legal and regulatory requirements, including but not limited to:
  • Private Security Industry Regulation Act (PSIRA)
  • Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)
  • Criminal Procedure Act
  • Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA)
  • Labour Relations Act (LRA) where applicable to disciplinary or safety processes.
  • Build and maintain community‑integrated security networks – engaging local leaders, SAPS, community policing forums, and neighborhood watch structures.
  • Develop and maintain contractor and 3rd‑party vetting, onboarding, and compliance programmes aligned with fibertime™’s Code of Conduct and operational risk standards.
  • Lead intelligence‑driven risk monitoring and early warning systems using AI, data analytics, and field reporting.
  • Manage a national incident response framework covering staff safety, asset protection, and crisis management.
  • Oversee ShakaSafe™ and other fibertime™ safety programmes, including staff practical training, township survival courses, and continuous risk refreshers.
  • Lead investigations, disciplinary processes, and post‑incident reviews in partnership with HR, Legal, and Operations.
  • Build and mentor a security team that reflects fibertime™’s values of trust, agility, and long‑term thinking.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in national or regional security leadership, preferably in telecommunications, utilities, or community‑facing environments.
  • Proven understanding of South African legal and regulatory frameworks relating to private security, incident response, and community safety.
  • PSIRA registration (Grade A) required.
  • Strong background in risk management, intelligence, and operational security.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage large, dispersed teams and coordinate with SAPS, metro police, and community safety organisations.
  • Familiarity with AI‑driven analytics, incident reporting tools, and surveillance systems.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across all levels – from Board to community.
WHY JOIN fibertime™?

fibertime™ is not a network operator – it’s a promise. We connect people. We protect people. We earn trust one street at a time.

As National Head of Security, you’ll shape the safety, integrity, and reputation of one of South Africa’s most purpose‑driven companies.

You’ll innovate, you’ll walk the streets with your team, and you’ll build a safety culture where Everyone, Everyday feels secure.

If you believe safety starts with people – and that technology, intelligence, and heart can coexist – this is your calling.
