Job summary

Placements24 is assisting a leading conservation organization in Mpumalanga to recruit an Environmental Conservation Officer. The role focuses on implementing conservation strategies, managing natural resources, and engaging local communities in Nelspruit.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Conservation Biology, or related field.
Minimum of 4 years of experience in environmental conservation, wildlife management, or natural resource management.
Proven field experience in ecological surveys, monitoring, and data collection.
Strong understanding of conservation principles, biodiversity, and environmental management.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and community engagement skills.
Ability to work effectively in remote field conditions and challenging environments.
Proficiency in GIS software and other relevant environmental monitoring tools is advantageous.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
A passion for environmental protection and sustainability in the Mpumalanga region.
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively within the province.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement conservation plans with local communities in Nelspruit.
Monitor wildlife populations, habitats, and environmental conditions.
Conduct ecological surveys and research to inform conservation strategies.
Manage and maintain conservation sites, protected areas, and rehab projects.
Engage communities to raise awareness and promote sustainable resource management.
Enforce environmental regulations within designated areas.
Organize and lead conservation workshops and educational programs.
Prepare detailed reports on activities, findings, and recommendations.
Collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, and partners on initiatives.
Assist fundraising for conservation projects.
