Mine Planning Engineer – Short-term (Mining / Mechanized / Underground / Deswik) – DRC

Our client is seeking a skilled Mine Planning Engineer – Short-term to join their Mine Technical Services team. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate and practical weekly and monthly mine development plans, issuing mining instructions, and ensuring plans are aligned with operational, medium-term, and long-term strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Produce short-term mine development plans and issue mining instructions.
  • Deliver weekly, monthly, and 3-month rolling mine plans aligned with business strategy and production targets.
  • Ensure mine designs are practical, economical, and compliant with standards.
  • Monitor and reconcile operational execution against plans, rescheduling as needed.
  • Collaborate with production geologists, surveyors, drill & blast, ventilation, and backfill teams to align activities with the mine plan.
  • Update and optimize mine plans in line with medium- and long-term strategies.
  • Drive stakeholder engagement, ensuring plans are communicated to all relevant teams.
  • Prepare accurate and timely daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by developing innovative planning tools, processes, and systems.
  • Ensure compliance with HSEQ standards and contribute to a Zero Harm culture.
  • Manage contractors and service providers, ensuring SLAs are met and governance standards upheld.

Qualifications

  • BSc in Mining Engineering (MSc Mine Planning & Optimization advantageous).
  • Minimum 5–7 years’ mining engineering experience post-graduation.
  • Proven mechanized underground mine planning experience.
  • Professional body membership (preferred).
  • Fluency in English required; French highly desirable (Swahili/Mandarin advantageous).
  • Advanced short-term and medium-term mine planning skills.
  • Strong proficiency in Deswik for mine design, scheduling, and optimization.
  • Knowledge of geology, survey, rock engineering, hydrology, and ventilation.
  • Financial modelling and mine cost planning exposure.
  • Strong stakeholder management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
