Placements24 is seeking an experienced Mine Planning Engineer for our client in Mossel Bay, Western Cape. You will lead short- and long-term open-pit mine planning, design pit shells, ramps, haul roads, and dumps, and develop production schedules and material movement plans.

• 8+ years' experience in mine planning, open-pit focus.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent mining company, is seeking an experienced Mine Planning Engineer to join their strategic team in Mossel Bay, Western Cape. This role is essential for the development and execution of optimized mine plans that maximize resource extraction, ensure operational efficiency, and uphold the highest safety standards. The successful candidate will be responsible for short-term and long-term mine planning, including open-pit design, scheduling, and material movement strategies. This position requires a deep understanding of mine planning software, geological data interpretation, and production economics. The ideal candidate will be adept at integrating geotechnical, environmental, and operational constraints into robust mine plans, contributing significantly to the success of our operations in Mossel Bay. You will work closely with geologists, engineers, surveyors, and operational teams to achieve production targets and ensure sustainable mining practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize short-term and long-term mine plans for open-pit operations.
• Generate mine designs, including pit shells, ramps, haul roads, and dump areas.
• Create detailed production schedules and material movement plans.
• Utilize mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac) for design and scheduling.

Requirements

• BEng/BSc in Mining Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in mine planning, with a strong focus on open-pit operations.
• Proficiency in leading mine planning and design software suites (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac, Whittle).
• Solid understanding of mining methods, equipment, and productivity drivers.
• Experience with resource estimation and block modelling concepts.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Familiarity with South African mining regulations and best practices.
• Registered or eligible for registration with SAIMM or ECSA.
