Job summary

A recruitment agency is looking for an experienced Millwright in Wolseley, Western Cape. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the highest safety standards and maintaining mechanical and electrical equipment in a fast-paced FMCG environment. Qualifications include a recognized Millwright trade test and 3–5 years’ experience in food packaging manufacturing. The role demands strong fault-finding skills in both mechanical and electrical contexts and the ability to work under pressure while maintaining a clean and efficient workplace.

Job description
Millwright position available in Wolseley, Western Cape.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Maintain the highest occupational safety standards, ensuring a zero IOD’s.
  • Ensure compliance with all standards, including BRC (latest issue), GFCO, Halal, and Kosher requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment by applying 5S principles.
  • Achieve high operating efficiency, targeting 99% machine availability.
  • Perform maintenance on all mechanical and electrical equipment within the plant.
  • Conduct routine safety checks on equipment to ensure compliance and reliability.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance and repairs to keep equipment in optimal working condition and meet supply demands.
  • Ensure all operations, processes and maintenance activities align with hygiene, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Work as required to resolve breakdowns or urgent maintenance tasks and implement corrective actions to quickly restore production efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot, overhaul, and rebuild machinery and sub‑assemblies as required.
  • Repair and troubleshoot machinery in line with established procedures, completing all necessary documentation.
  • Continuously assess equipment performance and implement improvements to enhance efficiency, equipment reliability and achieve cost savings.
  • Support production teams during changeovers, equipment setup, and optimization of packaging lines.
  • Source and order spare parts, obtain pricing, and manufacture components using machine shop equipment when required.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned to support maintenance and production operations.
Requirements:
  • Recognized Millwright trade test certification.
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in FMCG or food packaging manufacturing.
  • Computer literacy for maintenance reporting and job card systems, as well as Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
  • Proficiency in mechanical and electrical fault-finding, repair, and maintenance of packaging machinery.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and analytical skills to identify root causes of equipment failures.
  • Strong knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, conveyors, and automated systems used in FMCG packaging lines.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and OEM manuals.
  • Skilled in executing and improving preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
  • Experience with condition monitoring and predictive maintenance techniques.
  • Competence in documenting maintenance activities accurately and in compliance with factory standards.
  • Knowledge of critical spares management and ability to advise on inventory requirements.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced FMCG environment.
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and respond to breakdowns as required
