Purpose Statement
Ensure factory and infrastructure are in good condition and well maintained. Perform general maintenance and repairs including manufacturing of parts.

2. POSITION DESCRIPTION
Main Outputs and Responsibilities for this Position (please provide a short description under each heading/output)
- 1. Technical Fault analysis and problem solving
- Do fault analysis and problem solving in many different fields of expertise, depending on complexity together with Maintenance Manager / team and as assigned by Maintenance Manager.
- Take responsibility for: workshop; services room and its technical equipment for compressed air and cooling water; technical infrastructure (building, water and air supplies); company bakkie.
- Identify, immediately report and rectify all technical areas of concern on assigned equipment.
- Recognize and report problems to Maintenance Manager on other than the assigned equipment.
- 2. Repairs
- Rectify any defective equipment or tooling as assigned by the Maintenance Manager. Know when to improvise, be innovative, but remember to follow with the proper repair.
- Assist Maintenance Manager in identifying when to involve suppliers (e.g. toolroom or external suppliers).
- 3. Maintenance
- Develop maintenance plans and check lists on assigned equipment together with Maintenance Manager / team.
- Ensure maintenance on assigned equipment is done at required intervals according to the plans: by yourself; by service suppliers as agreed by Maintenance Manager; and document maintenance according to the plans.
- Ensure general maintenance on equipment (oil and grease) as agreed with responsible person.
- Spares: Identify spares needed for assigned equipment; in general; as a preventative measure identified during maintenance checks.
- 4. Construction
- Building of racks, stands, dividers, etc. using wood, steel, concrete and other building materials.
- Factory installations (e.g. pipe work, electrical cabling with electrician, machine installation).
- 5. Management
- Have an overview of what needs to be done and report to Maintenance Manager. Give completion dates and fulfill tasks required by Maintenance Manager.
- Ensure sound relationships and communication with internal staff (other technical team members, Production, Planning, etc.) and external (Bowler Plastics Toolroom / Technical department, suppliers, etc.).
- Work efficiently. Strive for improvement, research and make suggestions.
- 6. Administration (job)
- Log jobs performed. Contact external suppliers as agreed with Maintenance Manager to assist in solving problems (quotes on service, spare parts, etc.). Report tools needed to Maintenance Manager.
- Spares: Have an overview of existing stock for equipment. Spare part analysis (keep stock vs. source at breakdown). Assess likelihood of wear/breakage vs. cost vs. delivery time. Report parts needed and assist in decision to have on stock or source at breakdown. Assist Maintenance Manager in ordering process (e.g. prepare documents, follow up on orders). Plan for the year ahead, assist Maintenance Manager with work on budget for maintenance.
- 7. Health & Safety
- Ensure and enforce that aspects in area of responsibility conform to Health and Safety requirements. Maintain housekeeping standards in area of responsibility (e.g. cleanliness of technical areas, stores, workshops and machines). Work safely and report on safety hazards or issues.
- 8. Food (Product) Safety
- Food safety standards are site specific and at these sites employees should: apply the site’s food safety principles and standards; report any food safety hazards or issues to your Supervisor/Manager; comply with and maintain all GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) in relation to the Company’s FSMS (Food Safety Management System).
- 9. Self-Development, Growth and Training
- Keep abreast of innovation and technical improvements for further self-development and the development of the company. Maintain contact with key suppliers and discuss with them. Read operator manuals of machines. Read related literature. Undertake actions to address weaknesses; include teamwork and cooperation, self-management, leadership and interpersonal relationship, product and service quality.
- 10. General
- Perform additional tasks as required (e.g. help each other out if needed). Work overtime when needed, including weekend and night call-outs.
- Ensure team knows what to do and where to find information if you are not available. Inform yourself about and apply the company’s principles and standards. Set an example, be a role model for your team and others in the way you work and behave.

3. JOB EVALUATION CRITERIA
A) Knowledge and Skills
Secondary Education Grade 12
Tertiary Education (including Diplomas, Certificates and Degrees)
Minimum N3 in millwright trade theory and trade tested
Experience 5 years a0experience post trade test, preferably in plastics manufacturing. Background in blow moulding processes
B) Competencies
Knowledge Skills
Sound understanding of drawings
Fundamentals of fault finding and equipment testing
Have knowledge and understanding of:
- Workshop / tool room work.
- Utilization of the full range of hand and power tools (including welder, milling machine, lathe).
- Technical principles and drawings (e.g. assemblies and spare part finding, pneumatic, hydraulic, electric).
- Making proper sketches for part manufacturers.
- Assigned equipment. Sound knowledge on H&S and safe working procedures
- Installation of electrical and mechanical related equipment.
- Fault finding and problem solving.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to act decisively and urgently.
- High level of emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills.
Other Special Requirements
Have a general understanding of: o Process (material feeding and drying, injection moulding and reheat stretch blow moulding). o The technology applied in all processes utilized in the factory, related to mechanics, hydraulics and pneumatics.
