Position Overview

The Library Teaching Partner works alongside the Librarian to support and enhance the learning program. He/she establishes an effective rapport with students and other staff members. The Library Teacher Partner works closely with the Librarian in most aspects of teaching and learning that takes place in the library. The Library Teacher Partner should be familiar with all school procedures and have a basic knowledge of the age group (grade 6-8) to ensure a cohesive approach is followed. As the library is a communal space, engagement with teaching colleagues and parents is expected. Finally, helping maintain a relevant collection/resources is critical.

As a Teacher Partner at AISJ you will have an opportunity to work with students from around the world. You will learn about research-based practices in education, how to assess and use data to plan for instruction in order to meet the needs of each child.

  • Previous experience working with young adults

  • An interest in young adult literature and an active reader
  • Ability to present academic oriented material in a classroom environment
  • A degree/diploma in library science, or work toward such a degree
  • Experience in working in schools and educational environments
  • An interest in and ability to utilize technology
  • School library experience preferred
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manages cataloging of print and non-print material across the school libraries
  • Assists with the general preparation and organization of supplies and materials
  • Assists students and teachers in location of print and non-print resources
  • Serves as main point of circulation of material for all patrons
  • Conducts annual inventory of material
  • Works with
  • Maintains the collection: shelving, shelf reading, and organization
  • Works with students to support their needs on an individual and/or small group basis in the library setting
  • Supervises students as per school policy (conduct, dress code, etc.)
  • Participates in curriculum and staff development opportunities as required
  • Maintains a high level of professional competence through in-service education and professional growth activities.
  • Help assist with the setting up and maintenance of Media Pods
  • Helps promote the library and reading as part of the AISJ library team
  • Help foster a place of creativity and inspiration
  • Other tasks as determined by the librarian or principal

Work
Number of Work Days:

Monday through Friday – 188 (one hundred and eighty-eight) days per school year.

Work Day:

7:10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and from 7:10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Full-Time Teacher:

Secondary Teachers will teach 6 of 8 in the block schedule.

Other Duties As Assigned:

The Teacher will be expected to perform any work assigned to them that is within their skills and capabilities and to be flexible about changes to this function that may be required from time to time for operational reasons. This includes other duties as assigned by their supervisor from time to time.
