Description
The position encompasses a fast‑track program of knowledge and performance with regards to Offshore Drilling and associated well control equipment as well as the company's systems and processes.
He / she will be an enthusiastic, efficient, committed individual with a strong background in engineering theory, design, project management, manufacturing and practical work experience, who can think practically and innovatively.
The employee will interact with Customers, Suppliers, Field Service Engineers, Technicians, Management and Consultants.
The employee will give guidance and expert advice to others in the department.
The employee will also be expected to work unsupervised and will be required to supervise other personnel.
Responsibilities
- Oversee multiple projects, including your own, and provide guidance.
- Mentor junior mechanical engineers and technicians.
- Maintain a high level of safety ethic and always ensure a safe working environment.
- Initially shadow Project & Mechanical Engineers, Field Service Technicians and Subsea Engineers to gain a fundamental understanding of the design, operation, inspection and repair of Capital Drilling Equipment as well as all the processes, procedures, etc. of the Company.
- Conduct in‑house design and development (primary function, ±70%), including strength calculations from first principles and FEA/Simulation when required, 3D CAD modelling and drawing using SolidWorks, manufacturing data pack generation (incl. BOMs, QCPs, works instructions, manuals) and vendor management during fabrication stage.
- Physically participate in carrying out inspection and maintenance processes to gain a fundamental understanding of them.
- Manage Projects (Service, Repair, Manufacture, Design, CEM, Product, etc.) (secondary function, ±30%) from inception through to delivery, ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures; this includes quotation, project execution, procurement, logistics, resource planning, scheduling, reporting, inspection report review & dispositions, databook generation and submission, oversight, manufacture, quality control and project closeout.
- Give expert technical advice to technicians and coach new technicians.
- Monitor compliance to applicable codes, practices, QC policies, procedures and specifications.
- Perform detailed reporting and inspection report reviews; as well as regularly report and provide feedback to management and the customer on the progress of projects.
- Review engineering deliverables and initiate appropriate corrective actions; draft new procedures as required.
- Ensure safe work practices are being adhered to at all times.
Skills
- Advanced knowledge of the MS Office suite (especially Word, Excel, Teams).
- Excellent written communicator (email, technical report writing, WhatsApp, etc.).
- Excellent level of English, both written and verbal.
- Sound understanding of 3D CAD packages, in particular SolidWorks (advantageous).
- Sound understanding of FEA Software, in particular SolidWorks Simulation (advantageous).
- Sound understanding of Engineering Calculations Software, in particular Mathcad, MATLAB or similar (advantageous).
- Exposure to ASME VIII, API and Class Rules (ABS & DNV) in respect of design and manufacture (advantageous).
- Sound understanding of fabrication, boiler making / welding, precision machining.
- Excellent organizational, planning & time management skills.
Qualifications
Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent.
Experience
Three to six years' experience in a relatable engineering environment. Offshore drilling, heavy engineering and subsea.
