Job summary

Specialist Search Recruitment is seeking a Microbiology Laboratory Manager for a global healthcare company in South Africa. The role oversees all Microbiology activities in the lab and compounding facility, develops systems and monitoring methods for classified areas, and motivates staff to achieve peak performance.

Key requirements include 5+ years in a laboratory, GLP, cGMP, SOPs, microbiology expertise, and strong leadership.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a laboratory environment.
• Thorough knowledge of GLP.
• Familiarity with cGMP and SOPs in lab/manufacturing.
• Proficient with MS Office and general computer literacy.
• Strong microbiology knowledge and aseptic techniques.
• Experience in managing day-to-day operations.
• Ability to lead, plan, and document activities.
• Knowledge of cleanroom environments.
• Pharmaceutical knowledge.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage all routine microbiology testing and ensure timely communication to prevent product release delays.
• Develop and maintain environmental monitoring and contamination control programs.
• Ensure SOPs and systems are in place and updated.
• Oversee staff, performance reviews, recruitment and leave management.
• Manage OPEX and CAPEX budgets and forecast expenditures.
• Lead improvement projects for compliance with standards.
• Coordinate CAPAs, events and change controls.
• Ensure pest control and facility cleanliness.
• Release of critical consumables for CC facility.
