Job summary

Staff Solutions is assisting a leading manufacturer in Middelburg to recruit a Metallurgical Engineer. The role focuses on quality control in steel/metallurgy, design of testing programmes, and data-driven investigation of process issues.

You will operate metallurgical microscopes, use Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and P6, and contribute to project planning and technical writing; requires BSc or BEng in Metallurgy with 6–8 years of experience in heavy manufacturing.

Qualifications

• BSc or BEng in Metallurgy with 6–8 years of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of steel/stainless steel products and/or smelting/refining of other materials.
• Experience in heavy manufacturing, QA/QC, and project management.
• Experience with POLC principles and QCDSM.

Responsibilities

• Operate metallurgical microscopes (scanning electron and optical) and related software.
• Design testing programmes and analyze results for plant or customer processing.
• Prepare technical reports and interpret metallurgical test results.
• Gather plant data via databases and analyze for investigations.
• Contribute to project planning and data-driven problem solving.

Duties & Responsibilities

Job Description:

• Operation of metallurgical microscopes, image analysis software, Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint software, and plant software e.g. P6, Supervisory.
• Designing testing programmes.
• Technical writing, analysis and interpretation of metallurgical test results and relating to plant and/or customer processing and operation.
• Use of metallurgical microscopes (scanning electron and optical) in all investigations.
• Database systems to gather plant data to assist in investigations.
• Computer skills required to analyze data and compile reports.
• Analytical and interpretive skills required to determine causes of process or end-use problems, project planning.

Job Requirements

• BSc or B Eng. in Metallurgy with a minimum of 6 - 8 years’ relevant experience.
• Knowledge of steel/stainless steel products and/or smelting/refining of other materials.
• Working experience in heavy/large manufacturing processes related to steel manufacturing, quality assurance and control, project management.
• Experience with POLC principles and QCDSM.
