The Role

We're looking for a Merchandising Coordinator to join our dynamic team at our Cape Town Head Office in Montague Gardens. In this role, you'll assist our Chief Merchandising Officer (CMO) in coordinating international furniture orders and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations within the Merchandising Department. This position is ideal for someone who's detail-oriented, analytical, and process-driven— someone who enjoys working with data, managing inventory, and ensuring every order runs seamlessly from supplier to store.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Chief Merchandising Officer by executing buying strategies and merchandise plans.
  • Calculate order quantities and timing using in-house forecasting tools and sales data.
  • Accurately place purchase orders in line with approved buying plans.
  • Monitor stock levels and identify reorder needs.
  • Track supplier performance, delivery schedules, and shipments.
  • Maintain regular communication with international suppliers regarding orders and documentation.
  • Track all orders from placement to delivery, ensuring spreadsheets and systems are up to date.
  • Validate data entries and maintain % accuracy across merchandising spreadsheets.
  • Prepare product costing reports and assist with administrative merchandising functions.
  • Provide backup support to the Merchandising Administrator when needed.
Skills & Experience
  • Relevant tertiary qualification (Degree / Diploma) in Merchandising, Supply Chain, or related field.
  • 5+ years' experience in purchasing, inventory management, or supply chain coordination (furniture or retail industry preferred).
  • Proven ability to manage supplier communication, order processing, and data-driven reporting.
  • Strong Excel skills — ability to analyse, calculate, and track large data sets accurately.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Confident communicator with strong written and verbal English.
  • Ability to work independently, multitask, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with ERP or inventory management systems.
  • Bonus: ExperienceRetail or logistics background.
  • Bonus: Experience within the furniture industry.
  • Bonus: Understanding of import documentation and international shipping processes.
