Job summary

Utopia seeks an on-site MEP Engineer to support a luxury project in the Cape Town region. This fully onsite role requires relocation and close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to deliver top-tier outcomes.

The ideal candidate has 7–15 years in design consultancy or contracting, with HVAC/Electrical systems expertise, strong communication, and fluent English. The role offers a challenging environment on a landmark hospitality project from construction through delivery.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with HVAC concentration.
• 7–15 years of experience in design consultancy or general contractor.
• Experience on low-rise residential and hospitality projects (private homes, hotels, resorts).
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
• Professional level of English, both written and verbal.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support and guidance to design teams, QS teams, third party designers, consultants and contractors throughout the design process.
• Assist in reviewing and evaluating Electrical/HVAC/Plumbing design for compliance with project requirements.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers and managers to optimise system integration.
• Timely resolve technical issues during the design phase.
• Stay updated on industry trends, codes and regulations related to Electrical/HVAC/Plumbing.
• Assist on management, control and tracking of changes and variations according to corporate routines.

Job description

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced On-site MEP Engineer to support the ongoing construction of a luxury project in Cape Town. This is a fully onsite role requiring relocation to the Cape Town region.

You will report directly to the MEP Manager and Head of Construction, and work within a multidisciplinary environment, collaborating with architects, interior designers, structural engineers, procurement teams, and client representatives to ensure the highest standards of project delivery.

To succeed in this role, you must possess excellent communication and presentation skills. We seek a punctual, detail-oriented, and self-organized professional motivated to deliver high-quality results.

What you will do

• Provide technical support and guidance to in-house design & QS teams, third party designers, consultants and contractors throughout the design process.
