Requirements
- Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
- Registration with the HPCSA as Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. No experience required after registration.
Duties
- Strengthen obstetrics and gynaecological health services in the institution; promote clinical effectiveness across all facilities.
- Support district hospitals and clinics, community health centers, and primary health care outreach teams on all aspects of obstetrics and gynaecology service delivery.
- Engage private‑sector obstetricians for service‑delivery matters.
- Facilitate and participate in training, development, mentorship of under‑ and postgraduate medical professionals.
- Collaborate with district management teams to establish and maintain systems for surveillance, health information, communication, and referral guidelines.
- Initiate, support, and participate in clinical audit, quality improvement cycles focused on obstetrics and gynaecology assessments.
- Implement monitoring and evaluation processes, use data effectively, and report on outputs and health outcomes.
- Lead or participate in relevant research, possibly in partnership with local academic institutions.
- Promote effective teamwork and collaboration within the DCST.
- Engage community stakeholders, NGOs, and private providers to improve service delivery.
- Facilitate communication with management structures across district, regional levels and report regularly on activities to save mothers, babies, and children.
- Assist in strategic and operational planning of services in the district and/or catchment area of the regional hospital.
- Coordinate and supervise obstetrics and gynaecology services and manage relevant human resources, including recruitment.
