A national health department in Gauteng seeks a Medical Specialist: Obstetrician and Gynecologist. The role offers opportunities across three grades. Responsibilities include managing clinical protocols, training staff, and ensuring compliance. Requirements include an MBChB and postgraduate specialization in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Advanced experience may be required depending on the grade. This position emphasizes teamwork, leadership, and excellent communication skills.
Directorate: OBSTETRICS & GYNACOLOGY DEPARTMENT. Number of Posts: 2. Package: GRADE 1: R1; GRADE 2: R1; GRADE 3: R1. (All-inclusive remuneration package)
Requirements: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery plus MMED (O&G) or FCOGSA.
Grade 1: No experience required.
Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years appropriate experience as a medical specialist after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in a normal Speciality.
Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in a normal speciality.
A Resuscitation course such as APLS (or PALS), ACLS, ATLS is an added advantage.
Ability to manage a team of junior and senior doctors.
Ability to establish excellent working relationships with all discipline teams.
Good leadership skills, excellent communication (verbal and written) skills, conflict resolution and good interpersonal skills.
The successful candidate must be adaptable, disciplined, and self‑confident.
The candidate must be able to work independently and under pressure and beyond normal working hours and work with an adverse team.
Ability to work in a multi‑disciplinary team.
Knowledge of legislation, policies and procedure pertaining to health care users.
Computer literacy, experience in the public sector would be an advantage.
Candidate will be expected to perform commuted overtime as per service needs.
Notes: These positions will be joint appointments between the Gauteng Department of Health and the following academic institutions: University of Witwatersrand / University of Pretoria and Sefako Makgatho University.
Preference will be given to South African citizens.
