Job summary

Package
  • Grade 1: R1 341 855.00 (per annum) (All‑inclusive package)
  • Grade 2: R1 531 032.00 (per annum) (All‑inclusive package)
  • Grade 3: R1 773 222.00 (per annum) (All‑inclusive package)
Requirements
  • Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent.
  • MBBCh/MBCHB, Medical Specialist in Anesthesia – MMED Anesthesia and FCOG and active registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Anesthesia.
  • Grade 1 – experience not applicable; registration with HPCSA as Medical Specialist in Anesthesia.
  • Grade 2 – 5 years appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA as Medical Specialist in Anaesthesia.
  • Grade 3 – 10 years of experience.
  • Inherent requirements: Participate in the after‑hours call system (commuted overtime is compulsory).
  • Knowledge, Skills, Attributes and Abilities:
    • Sound clinical knowledge and experience in Anesthesia.
    • Knowledge of current Health and Public Service Legislation, Regulations and Policies.
    • Knowledge of Medical Ethics, and knowledge of budget control.
    • Excellent managerial, interpersonal, leadership, administrative, communication, analytical and problem‑solving skills.
    • Ability to supervise, train and mentor medical officers and other junior members of staff.
Duties
  • Administer and oversee the administration of Anesthesia at all levels and service points.
  • Provide clinical services in Anesthesia subspecialties as determined by the department.
  • Participate and assist in teaching and training of both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Perform administrative duties as delegated by the Head of Department.
  • Conduct clinical research/audits and/or participate in the research programmes in the department and supervise MMed research studies.
  • Comply with the Performance Management and Development System (contracting, quarterly or semester reviews and final assessment).
