Job summary

Department of Health in Gauteng invites applications for an ophthalmology position at Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital. The successful candidate must be registered with HPCSA as an independent Medical Practitioner and have completed Community service, plus the College of Ophthalmologists Primary exams.

The role covers in- and outpatient care, assisting consultants with surgeries, academic activities, dissertation work, and on-call duties.

Qualifications

• Registration with HPCSA as an independent Medical Practitioner is required.
• Current HPCSA registration as independent Medical Practitioner.
• Must have completed Community service.

• Diploma in Ophthalmology is an added advantage.

Responsibilities

• Provide in- and outpatient medical care and assist consultants with surgical procedures.
• Develop surgical skills and participate in academic meetings.
• Prepare and complete dissertations, and attend ward rounds and meetings.
• Overtime and after-hours call; perform minor outpatient procedures.
• Maintain patient records and coordinate care; contribute to clinical administration tasks.

Requirements :

• Appropriate qualifications that allow registration with HPCSA as an independent Medical Practitioner. Current registration with HPCSA as an independent Medical Practitioner. Must have completed Community service. Must have completed the College of Ophthalmologist Primary exams. Participation in Research and Publication in article will be an added advantage. Having Diploma in Ophthalmology will be an added advantage.

Duties :

• In- and outpatient medical care, assist consultants with surgical procedures, develop surgical skills, prepare, present and attend academic meetings, preparation and completion of dissertation, do overtime and after hours’ call, perform minor outpatient procedures, prepare for examinations, clinical administration tasks include maintaining patient records, coordinating care, and participating in ward rounds and meetings.
