Qualifications

• Appropriate qualification that allows registration with HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner.
• Registration certificate with HPCSA as an Independent Practitioner and current registration as a Medical Practitioner.
• Grade 1 - None after registration with the HPCSA as Medical Practitioner.
• Grade 2 - A minimum of 5 years appropriate experience as Medical Officer after registration with the HPCSA as Medical Practitioner.
• Grade 3 - A minimum of 10 years appropriate experience as Medical Officer after registration with the HPCSA as Medical Practitioner.

Responsibilities

• Handle referrals and transfers from level 1,2,3 facilities.
• Daily wards rounds and outpatient care in subspeciality unit.
• Attend consultations from other departments.
• Ups-referral of properly worked-up patients as needed.
• Down-referral of stable patients to level 1 clinics and update SOPs.
• Facilitate in-service training of junior medical officers, nurses and support staff.
• Attend academic and district meetings; stay updated on field developments.
• Liaise with other units and community clinics for consults and transfers.
• Familiarize with South African National Health Act 61 of 2003.
