Job summary

The Department of Health seeks a highly qualified Medical Practitioner to lead the Paediatrics and Child Health services. Registration with HPCSA is required, MBChB with Diploma in Child Health, and a minimum of 10 years post‑registration experience, of which seven years should be in Paediatrics.

Responsibilities include coordinating clinical and administrative services, teaching undergraduate Medical students, interns and junior doctors, and supporting quality improvement projects.

Requirements

• An appropriate qualification that allows registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner, that is MBCHB and Diploma in Child Health. Previously done PALS/APLS. HPCSA registration as an independent Medical Practitioner. Proof of current registration with HPCSA (2026/2027). A minimum of 10 years appropriate experience after registration with HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner, of which 7 years of the above must be an appropriate experience in Paediatrics. Additional qualifications or Certificates will be of advantage. The applicant must be able to work commuted overtime.

Duties

• Co-ordinate clinical and administration services in the Paediatric department. Maintain satisfactory clinical, professional, and ethical standards related to these services. Ability to manage Neonatal and Paediatric intensive care patients. In addition to clinical service, outputs include; teaching (formal and informal) of undergraduate Medical students, Interns and Junior Medical Officers. Assist Specialists with quality improvement projects, data collection and administrative duties. Assist in the implementation of departmental policies and programs. Participate in academic activities in the hospital and in the cluster. Assist HOD of Paediatrics with efficient delivery of high-quality Paediatric services.
