Overview

Background: The Perinatal HIV Research Unit (Wits PHRU) was established in
The Perinatal HIV Research Unit has been involved in research, training, policy formation and advocacy concerning HIV-positive women and their children. In recent years, the work of the unit has expanded beyond the original focus on mother-to-child transmission of HIV.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive medical care and clinical support to participants in HIV Prevention (and similar) clinical trials at the PHRU location (Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, Soweto).
  • Provide clinical care to patients and participants.
  • Accurate and comprehensive medical record keeping.
  • Manage patient/participant flow in the clinic.
  • Conduct clinical trials as delegated by the principal investigator.
Required Qualifications
  • Medical degree (MBChB/MBBCh).
  • Registrations: HPCSA and, where applicable, MPS certification.
  • At least two years of experience in a clinical environment (including internship or community service).
  • Immediate availability preferred.
Desirable Skills
  • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Human Subjects Protection (or equivalent) certification.
  • Experience with HIV Prevention trials, HIV treatment, and general patient care.
  • Strong empathy and understanding toward patients.
  • Excellent clinical skills.
  • Computer literacy using Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
