Purpose of Job

To provide support in the mechanical engineering field to facilitate the setup and running of engines on test benches and test rigs for the purposes of testing fuels and measuring emissions.

Provide Technical support to maintenance and engineers by applying theoretical skills and making suggestions and independently implementing solutions to optimise.

Key Accountabilities
  • Engine build and instrument preparation for testing on bench or in vehicle
  • Test cell development, preparation and set up Engine installation into test cell and checking of operability/fault finding, calibrating and correcting of mechanical equipment
  • Checking and setting up of facility safety systems for operability
  • Monitoring of testing (fuel supply, engine condition and computer systems)
  • Running of testing (analysing data and inputting test parameters)
  • Engine removal from test bench/vehicle, strip and analyse/measure
  • Specifying engine components for procurement
  • Specifying services required for developments and maintenance
  • Ensure that work standards are met according to quality, quantity and due dates.
  • Optimizes and control resources effectively.
  • Independently gather information and data accumulation.
  • Take ownership for personal improvement and skills development.
  • Manage own work planning and delivery according to targets.
  • Resolve work obstacles and issues positively and quickly.
  • Develop suitable technical proposals based on practical and theoretical knowledge.
  • Build customer relationships in order to understand their needs.
  • Build effective partnerships with team to ensure high performance.
  • Demonstrate effective listening and communication skills when dealing with colleagues.
  • Improve present way of doing work by continuously asking questions.
  • Identify optimization opportunities.
  • Share and implement new ideas regarding work.
Formal Education
  • B-Tech Mechanical Engineering (Must)
  • Occupational trade Qualification (Mechanical) – will be an advantage
