Job description
Overview

This role is designed to implement continuous improvements, mechanical design and fault analysis designated to fully automated machines to meet specific performance criteria in respect of safety, people, production, quality and engineering availability. Provide high level support to the Shift artisans and the specialised engineering maintenance team. To implement small scale Mechanical Projects in designated areas.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Analysing mechanical unplanned downtime and assist in generating reports per section
  • Implements mechanical initiatives to reduce engineering downtime
  • Reports back to the Plant Engineer and Maintenance Manager on mechanical related downtime
  • Ensures that implementation conforms to the engineering standards and world class asset care systems and practices
  • Proactively assists with root cause analysis of major breakdown repairs using appropriate problem-solving methodologies
  • Carries out work according to prioritisation as received from the Plant Engineer
  • Works hand in hand with the E&I technician counterpart
  • Design, Plan and Execute Mechanical related projects
Qualifications and Experience
  • National Diploma or N6 in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 year’s mechanical design experience, maintenance, or engineering support within a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Experience in fault-finding, diagnostics, and system recovery on automated production equipment
  • Exposure to high reliability or safety critical environments, preferably explosives, chemicals, mining, automotive, or FMCG plants
  • Demonstrated ability to support multi plant operations and after-hours escalation
  • Experience in pneumatic and hydraulic systems design, maintenance and fault finding
  • Experience in highspeed packaging or discreet component manufacturing will be advantageous
  • Experience with SolidWorks or other similar computer-aided tools
  • Experience working with small to medium parts and assemblies (especially small tolerance components)
Knowledge
  • Proven ability to take a design from the concept phase to the final product
  • Familiarity with OHS Act requirements and engineering standards applicable in South African industrial plant
  • Understanding of industrial design and its processes
  • Understanding and implementation of drawing standards
  • Designing for harsh environments
  • Working knowledge of the following modules in SAP - PM & MM
  • Intermediate MS Projects
Skills
