An academic institution in Gauteng is seeking a qualified Lecturer for its School of Engineering and Science. The role involves delivering interactive teaching, assessing student performance, and contributing to curriculum development. Candidates must hold a Master's degree in a relevant engineering field and have at least 5 years of teaching experience in higher education. This full-time position aims to promote student success and retention within a supportive academic environment.
We are in search of a Lecturer within our School of Engineering and Science to support the expertise within our current team.
This role is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning experiences that promote student success, engagement, and retention.
Facilitating student learning through interactive teaching that promotes engagement and supports the overall student learning experience.
Setting, conducting, and grading assessments, providing timely, meaningful, and constructive feedback.
Contributing to programme and content development, including the improvement of teaching resources and curriculum design.
Undertaking relevant academic administration activities to ensure compliance with institutional policies and timelines.
Ensuring a positive student experience through academic support, mentorship, and maintaining high levels of customer service.
Preparing comprehensive briefs and marking schedules for each project at the start of the module, including aims, learning outcomes, submission requirements, assessment criteria, references, and resources.
Informing students of assessment methods, procedures, and regulations in line with institutional briefs and assessment policy.
Staying informed and abreast of developments and trends within mechatronic engineering and higher education teaching practice.
Promoting student success by identifying at-risk students early and implementing appropriate intervention strategies.
Supporting improved student retention and throughput rates through innovative teaching practices and student success initiatives.
Building and maintaining communities of learning and practice within the department.
Being perceived by students as approachable, fair, and supportive, while maintaining professionalism and academic standards.
Collaborating with colleagues across departments to strengthen teaching, learning, and student support processes.
Masters in a relevant engineering field is a minimum requirement.
Registered member at ECSA is a pre-requisite.
At least 5 years' experience in teaching and learning within the Higher Education environment.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and engage students.
High levels of empathy, emotional intelligence, and student support capability.
Ability to provide clear, fair, and constructive feedback on assessments.
Excellent academic writing, research, and presentation skills.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage teaching, marking, and administrative responsibilities effectively.
Sound understanding of assessment policies, learning outcomes, and quality assurance in higher education.
Demonstrated ability to contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to identify and support at-risk students.
Ability to build collaborative relationships across departments and contribute to a positive academic culture.
Commitment to professional development and staying current with industry and academic developments in the field.
