Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for its Port Elizabeth-based client in the agricultural machinery sector. The role focuses on design, development and improvement of mechanical systems across the product lifecycle, from concept to production support.

The successful candidate will use 3D CAD (SolidWorks or Inventor), perform analyses, and collaborate with production to ensure manufacturability and cost effectiveness. 2–5 years' experience required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• 2–5 years of experience in mechanical design or product development, preferably with industrial machinery or agricultural equipment.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor) and 2D drafting.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and systems for new industrial machinery using CAD software.
• Create detailed technical drawings, schematics, and BOMs.
• Perform engineering calculations and simulations (stress, kinematic) to verify design performance.
• Collaborate with production to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective.
• Support assembly and testing of prototypes, troubleshoot issues, and implement design changes.
• Develop technical documentation including user manuals and maintenance guides.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 2-5 years of experience in mechanical design or product development, preferably with industrial machinery or agricultural equipment.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor) and 2D drafting.
• Basic understanding of engineering analysis tools (FEA knowledge is a plus).
• Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes (e.g., fabrication, machining), and mechanical components (e.g., gears, bearings, hydraulics).
• Strong problem-solving abilities and a methodical approach to design challenges.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
• Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality engineering work.
• Based in or willing to commute to Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape for hybrid work arrangements.
