Intermediate Mechanical Engineer
The Turn-key & Project-, Engineering & Design teams focus on planning, design, and operation of interconnected mine engineering systems such as logistical, electrical, water, and compressed air systems. We understand the physical characteristics of engineering services equipment and the complex interaction characteristics of their operation as part of a large integrated mine, an industrial plant, or a commercial facility.

In this role, you will form part of our growing engineering department and be exposed to some of the largest mining clients in the world. Proper engineering system design is often overlooked during the mine design process, and we need your help to challenge the status quo in providing elegant, efficient, and robust solutions to our clients.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the design, evaluation, monitoring, and implementation of new mechanical engineering systems and strategies on local and international mines (consisting of personnel, material, and ore transportation, as well as water, compressed air, and other services);
- Technical advisory services for projects under development, construction, and operation which may include but are not limited to technical due diligence, system modeling and study, assessment of mechanical system operation performances, and project management;
- Perform mechanical system analysis including modeling, simulation, and evaluation of design alternatives;
- Provide solutions on specific engineering system components and problems;
- Contribute to the development/refinement of tools and techniques for mechanical and engineering system simulations;
- Assist with the assessment and monitoring of engineering services components and systems;
- Actively participate in strategic planning and development of Mventech’s products/services offerings and support New Product/Technology Introductions concurrent with the business needs;
- Prepare and deliver technical reports, effectively communicate results to both internal and external customers by preparing written detailed and summary reports and making presentations describing analyses performed, solutions developed, and customer value propositions;
- Participate in the advancement of technical projects to address industry shortcomings and challenge the status quo;
- May be required to support with the advancement of asset management projects and workstream within Mventech (based on prior experience)
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Mechanical Engineering;
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in engineering or a similar background in the mining or mineral processing industry;
- Experience in working with multi-disciplinary Engineering and design teams;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Solid understanding of mining or processing systems / equipment operation: reticulation, interdependencies etc.;
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills;
- Demonstrated capability to complete projects on time and on budget as either individual contributor or project manager;
- Proficiency with office productivity software e.g. MS Office, Visio, MS Project;
- Ability to motivate and influence individuals and teams
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Mechanical Engineering.
- 5+ years of professional experience in engineering or a similar background in the mining or mineral processing industry.
- Experience in working with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Proficiency in key software analytical tools may be beneficial and should be listed in a cover letter:
- Pipe and pump system steady-state simulation software like Flownex, AFT Arrow, Pumpsim, or similar
- Conveyor design software like Helix Conveyor Design or Sidewinder
- Discrete Element Modelling software like Ansys Rocky, Altair EDEM or PFC
- Transient analysis software like CAESAR II, Deltares WANDA, AFT Impulse, Bentley HAMMER
- FEA analysis software like Ansys, Inventor Nastan / Fusion Simulation
- Experience designing one or more of the following systems on underground mines or processing plants may be beneficial and should be listed in a cover letter:
- Bulk materials handling systems
- Low pressure pipe systems
- High pressure pipe systems
- High temperature pipe systems
- Slurry and single stage pump systems and pipe networks
- Multistage pump systems and pipe networks
- Winder, winches and crane design
- Understanding of the asset lifecycle (plan–acquire–operate–maintain–dispose) aligned to ISO 55000 principles
- Build and maintain asset registers, hierarchies and BoMs; perform asset criticality ranking
- Select and optimise maintenance strategies (RCM/FMEA, time/condition-based PMs)
- Plan and schedule work; manage backlogs, shutdowns/turnarounds, and permits to work
- Apply reliability basics: MTBF/MTTR, availability, maintainability, OEE concepts
- Read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, OEM manuals and SOPs
- Coordinate statutory inspections and compliance documentation
- Confident use of CMMS/EAM (e.g., SAP PM, Maximo, Infor, On Key)
- Demonstrated ability with reliability-centred maintenance (RCM), Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), and condition monitoring techniques such as vibration analysis and thermography
- Basic ability to navigate Autodesk Navisworks and AutoCAD
