Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, to join its R&D team. You will take designs from concept to production, using advanced CAD tools and CAE simulations, and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

The role requires a degree in mechanical engineering and 3–5 years of automotive design experience. Hybrid work options are available, with a focus on delivering high-quality engineering solutions for new vehicle programs.

Qualificações

• Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical Engineering (or relevant discipline).
• 3–5 years of mechanical design experience, preferably automotive.
• Proficiency in CAD software (CATIA/SolidWorks/NX) and CAE tools (ANSYS/Abaqus).
• Strong understanding of automotive components, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Responsabilidades

• Design and develop mechanical components and systems for automotive applications, meeting performance, cost, and timing targets.
• Create 3D CAD models, drawings, and documentation using leading software.
• Run stress, thermal, and vibration simulations with CAE tools.
• Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, and testing to ensure feasibility and manufacturability.
• Oversee prototyping, testing, and validation; implement revisions as needed.
• Troubleshoot issues and provide technical support throughout product development.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and systems for automotive applications, adhering to performance, cost, and timing targets.

• Perform engineering analysis, including stress, thermal, and vibration simulations, using CAE tools.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, manufacturing, and testing, to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability.
• Oversee prototyping, testing, and validation of mechanical designs, analyzing results and implementing necessary revisions.
• Troubleshoot design issues and provide technical support throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations for project reviews.
• Stay current with automotive industry trends, technologies, and best practices in mechanical design.
• Contribute to innovation and continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant discipline.
• 3-5 years of experience in mechanical design engineering, preferably within the automotive industry.
• Proficiency in industry-standard CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, NX) and CAE tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus).
• Strong understanding of automotive components, systems, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for team collaboration.
• Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced R&D environment.
