Job description
Introduction

An excellent opportunity exists for a Meat Processing Technician based in Maitland, Cape Town.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and supporting meat processing operations while ensuring efficient, safe, and high-quality production within a manufacturing environment.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Operate and assist with running the processing plant lines (sausages, emulsions, ham, and bacon), including fillers, injectors, smokers, and related equipment.
  • Work on production systems to meet output, yield, and quality targets.
  • Apply knowledge of meat-cutting, part selection, and basic butchery processing (e.g., identifying different cuts such as leg of pork vs oxtail).
  • Support maintenance and cleaning of equipment and production lines according to operational schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, HACCP, and GMP standards.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance / Control team to maintain product quality and traceability.
  • Demonstrate willingness to learn, adapt, and grow in a manufacturing environment while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to company safety, operational, and people standards.
  • Supervise or coordinate a small team, assist with training, and guide junior operators.
Desired Experience & Qualification
  • Matric or equivalent qualification.
  • Relevant technical or food processing qualification advantageous.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years' experience in a meat processing or food manufacturing environment.
  • Sound knowledge of HACCP, GMP, and food safety standards.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to operate processing machinery.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
