Job summary

Dana Spicer Axle South Africa (Pty) Ltd in Uitenhage is seeking a Material Expeditor to plan and arrange manufacturing components, manage logistics costs, and protect supply. You will ensure forecasts reach suppliers, coordinate with production planners, and expeditely raw materials to keep production on track.

The role requires strong MRP and MS Office skills, with experience in the automotive sector preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure 52-week forecast is extended to all suppliers
• Coordinate with production planners on scheduling of production lines
• Expedite raw materials from local and international suppliers
• Communicate with freight forwarders regarding imports of raw materials
• Maintain inventory at acceptable levels
• Reduce logistics costs and optimize freight and warehouse networks
• Escalate supply issues to materials manager when required

Job description

Position: Material Expeditor

Reporting to: Materials Manager

General Job Description:

This position is based Uitenhage South Africa. Report directly to the Materials Manager, this position will be responsible to plan and arrange manufacturing components, logistics costs, and protection of supply.

Role & Responsibilities:

• Ensure long horizon forecast is extended to all suppliers (52 week Forecast)
• Understand customer demand and forecast,
• Work closely with Production Planners to understand the scheduling of the production lines.
• Analyze MRP Reports and send weekly releases to the supplier base,
• Micro-manage Expediting of Raw Materials from Local and International Suppliers.
• Make sure the Raw Materials are on time for Production,
• Daily communicates with Freight Forwarders regarding Import of Raw Materials
• Maintain inventory at an acceptable level

Control & Reduce Logistics costs

• Improve utilization of planned trucks daily with freight forwarders and transporters,
• Improve internal supply chain and materials flow between Dana plants (Utilize Value Stream Mapping)
• Work in a cross functional team to optimize our freight and warehouse network, tying in forecast and order management logic.

Protection of Supply

• Escalate potential supply issues to material manager if required,
• Allocate parts between Dana plants if required,
• Send out weekly purchase orders to suppliers,
• Ensure suppliers have the required parts ready for collection as per the Purchase orders sent out weekly,
• Manage all material alarms in One Network

Deliverable:

• Avoid Stopping internal customer,
• Reduce / Eliminate any airfreight cost,
• Keep obsolescence at an absolute minimum,
• Maintain inventory at an acceptable level as per forecast

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor Degree and experience in a Materials Planning, logistics, and/or supply chain
• Must have excellent computer skills and thorough knowledge of MRP, MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
• Understanding of both the Automotive and Commercial Vehicle industry preferred.
• Must be proficient in the use of eBusiness tools and Microsoft Office Suite
• Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience in Assembly, Machining, and Forging Operations preferred.
• Must be detail oriented, proactive in anticipating requirements and able to work efficiently with minimal direction in a sometimes high pressure environment.
• Skilled in composing written correspondence and preparing presentations for senior management.
• Successfully interacts with a dispersed leadership team and others across functions and sites.
• Must be proactive, detail oriented and have excellent organization, planning and follow-through skills.
