Job description
Introduction

The Marketing Coordinator plays a vital operational role within the THIRSTI marketing team — ensuring flawless execution of day-to-day marketing logistics, procurement, sponsorship support, activations coordination, and administrative processes.

This individual will work closely with Brand Managers, the Sponsorships & Events Manager, and the Activations Team to ensure smooth flow of materials, communication, and reporting across all marketing touchpoints.

This position is based in Thornville just outiside of Pietermaritzburg.

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Marketing Administration & Procurement: Manage the RFP and Purchase Order process — obtaining quotes, submitting requests, tracking approvals, and ensuring accuracy for suppliers (clothing, merchandise, branding, fridges, etc.). Maintain and update vendor documents and compliance information to ensure POs can be raised promptly. Handle petty cash and urgent payment requests when needed. Support weekly submission for Friday payment approvals.
  2. Logistics & Order Management: Coordinate product and merchandise orders for sponsorships, activations, and influencer drops. Liaise with courier partners to ensure on-time delivery of branding, merchandise, and stock nationally. Manage stock takes and replenishments in the marketing storeroom (merch, giveaways, activator kits). Oversee accommodation bookings and travel logistics for activators when required.
  3. Sponsorship & Event Support: Support the marketing team with order coordination, delivery tracking, and on-site logistics for key sponsorships: Bulls, Cheetah's, Cricket South Africa, Nedbank Running Club, Comrades Marathon, school sponsorships, influencers and ambassadors. Assist with hospitality logistics (College Box, Sharks Box) — stock orders, setup, and replenishment. Help manage small activations, coordinating with activators and ensuring execution standards. Arrange winner prizes, giveaways, and merchandising for campaigns.
  4. Content & Social Support: Support community management by monitoring social media messages and sharing tagged stories. Maintain and refresh internal communication screens (e.g., Yodeck playlists and Coffee Station screens). Assist with final detail checks on campaign materials (spelling, spacing, design consistency).
  5. Systems & Process Maintenance: Support upkeep of internal marketing tools, portals, and shared folders (Etail portal, Winner's Circle, etc.). Track and upload stock imagery, videos, and creative assets as needed. Assist with the maintenance of delivery addresses, login details, and internal admin records.
  6. General Team Support: Provide daily administrative and operational support to the Marketing Department. Help maintain smooth communication flow between marketing, finance, operations, and suppliers. Jump in on special projects and cross-functional initiatives as required (product launches, events, etc.).
Desired Experience & Qualification
  • Diploma or Degree in Marketing, Communications, or Administration preferred.
  • 1–3 years' experience in a marketing or administrative support role.
  • Experience with procurement, event coordination, or brand logistics highly advantageous.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Proactive, with a problem-solving mindset.
  • Ability to handle multiple deadlines and shifting priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Intermediate Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Working knowledge of marketing or sponsorship processes an advantage.
  • Collaborative team player with a service-oriented mindset.
