Qualifications
- Hold a Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Education (Music), or an equivalent music qualification and/or a teaching licentiate in your main instrument.
- Be able to teach individual music lessons on your instrument.
- Have experience teaching Junior School Class Music and/or Senior School Subject Music.
- Be able to teach creatively, interact with children of all ages, and integrate technology as a learning tool in the classroom.
- Have a SACE registration or be willing to apply for one.
- Have a clear criminal clearance certificate.
Expectations
Commit to a part-time role, effective from January.
Responsibilities
- Lead four to five Marimba Groups, including:
- Junior School Grade 6 Marimbas
- Junior School Grade 7 Maras
- Senior School Grade 8–9 Marimbas (combined junior marimba band)
- Senior School Mixed Marimba Band
- Senior School Performance Marimba Band (Grades – details to be confirmed)
- Teach Class Music / Music Appreciation in the Junior and/or Senior School (specific content to be confirmed).
- Ideally be able to teach an individual practical instrument.
- Proficient in the use of music composition software to arrange and compose for the marimba groups.
- Manage administration and logistics related to the marimba ensembles.
- Accompany and chaperone marimba groups at scheduled performances, events, and outings.
- Passionate about developing music skills throughout the school.
- Work flexible hours, including weekends, when required.
- Function independently as well as part of a team, contributing to the culture and ethos of the school.
- Embrace continuous learning, demonstrating self‑discipline, enthusiasm and integrity.
- Communicate confidently with students, parents, and staff, with excellent English written and spoken skills.
- Support the St John’s D.S.G. culture, values, and Christian ethos.
